Scholarships
Each year the Touchdown Club awards four $1,000 college scholarships to qualified student/athletes. Following are the requirements and procedures and the application form.

Requirements

  1. Graduate from a senior high school located in either Summit or Portage County
  2. Plan to enroll in a college or university located in the State of Ohio, for fall 2012.
  3. During senior year in high school earn at least one (1) varsity letter for participation in an interscholastic sport.
  4. Meet the minimum academic standards set for applicants for Athletic grants-in-aid, at the college they wish to attend -- maintain academic requirements that exist for students at the same school who hold athletic grants or awards.
  5. Complete the Touchdown Club Scholarship Application form (please type) and return to chairperson -- Jill Hanigofsky 497 Koerber Avenue Akron, Ohio 44313, BEFORE MARCH 16th, 2011. ENCLOSE WITH APPLICATION A TRANSCRIPT OF HIGH SCHOOL GRADES, CREDITS, AND STAND SCORES.
  6. Make arrangements to have TWO (2) letters of recommendation sent to scholarship chairperson (Ms. Jill Hanigofsky) BEFORE MARCH 16, 2012.
  7. Complete entrance requirements and file application forms for enrollement to university or college of applicant's choice -- by JUNE 1, 2012.


NOTE: Scholarship recipients will be notified by mail as soon as award winners are determined, but not later than April 10, 2012


2011 Scholarship Winners

James E. Sovacool Scholarship Awards

Nathan Dreger will graduate first in his class at Rootstown High School. Nathan will pursue a degree in Bio- Chemistry from the University of Mount Union, where he also plans on playing soccer for the Purple Raiders. He competed in soccer all four years at Rootstown.

Anna Mion has competed at the state’s highest level in track and cross country, while representing the Irish of St. Vincent-St. Mary. She is a two-time member of the state cross country team, as well as a three-time state qualifier in track. She carries a 4.0 GPA and plans on studying Graphic Design.

Brianna Reed has amassed ten varsity letters during her time at Buchtel High School. Ranked fifth in her graduating class, Brianna has participated in volleyball, bowling and softball. Brianna plans on attending Bowling Green State University and study Communications/public relations.

Todd Sabol will leave Barberton High School with eight letters on his varsity jacket. A participant in football, basketball and soccer, Todd has been named All-Suburban League as well as being a Touchdown Club All-Star. Todd will continue his soccer career in college, while pursuing a degree in Physical Therapy.
